Some begin the habit earlier, but around thirty, it seems we begin the tendency of wandering back to the past and wish we had acted differently or made the choices you now know were the best for you. The older we get, again it seems, that we nurture such thoughts and hold them close in hearts and minds.
Stop it!
Why should you cease doing this? First you are wasting valuable present time. Is not the poor use of your time one of the things you regret about your personal history? Here you are presently still wasting time in regrets for actions or inaction in days gone by. You are nurturing the very thing you regret.
Secondly, your insightful wisdom of the present exists because of your experience. No past, no depth of understanding of the former time.
Begin the day with a sense of possibilities. These do not have to be dramatic or earth shaking. Direct your energies here. You are alive and explore options. Go ahead, dream big. Give thought to the small steps that could make the thing in your imagination a reality. Use your accumulated smarts to fuel your dreams.
Share your accumulated experience with someone who is asking or responsive to your assistance. You do not share from the I-don’t-want-you-to-make-the-same-mistake-I-did mindset. You clearly share what you know and leave to the person to take or leave the information.
Thirdly, be still. Be quiet. Enjoy the feel of life. Observe life all around you. Find a green space, even one cordoned off by tall skyscrapers. Enjoy the trees, the grass, the sounds around you. Listen to the present moment with gratitude.
Reflections
What is one dream that you might desire to explore?
What are the first three specific steps to get there from where you are now?
Put these on your calendar and keep the appointments.
Every great dream begins with a dreamer.
